Saudi Electricity Company - An overview

Saudi Electricity Company (se.com.sa), or SEC, often referred to with the old acronym SCECO, is the sole electricity generation and distribution company in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It came into existence through a Cabinet Order (number 169) in December 1999, which stipulated the merger of all electricity companies in the Central, Eastern, Western and Southern Regions in addition to the ten small companies operating in the north of the Kingdom as well as all other electricity operations managed by The General Electricity Corporation, into a single joint stock company which is now known as Saudi Electricity Company. It was established with a paid-up capital of SR 33,758,632,650 (Thirty three billion seven hundred fifty eight million six hundred thirty two thousand six hundred and fifty Saudi Riyals).

Tariff Slabs / Rates of Power Consumption:

For Residential Buildings/Apartments, the bill amount is calculated based upon below tariff slabs:-
  • 1 to 2000 Kilo Watt per Hour (KW/H) costs 5 Halalas (0.05 riyals)
  • 2001 to 4000 KW/H costs 10 Halalas (0.1 riyals)
  • 4001 to 6000 KW/H costs 12 Halalas (0.12 riyals)
  • 6001 to 7000 KW/H 15 Halalas (0.15 riyals)
  • 7001 to 8000 KW/H costs 20 Halalas (0.2 riyals)
  • 8001 to 9000 KW/H costs 22 Halalas (0.22 riyals)
  • 9001 to 10000 KW/H costs 24 Halalas (0.24 riyals)
  • Above 10000 KW/H costs  26 Halalas (0.26 riyals) 
Generally, the electricity bill for a regular 2-Bed room residential apartment with minimum two ACs running  in summer is around 250 to 300 riyals a month. In winters, with no ACs, the bill amount usually remains below 50 riyals.

Bill Payment Methods

The electricity bill is issued monthly, and can be paid through following means:-
  • Through any branch of any bank (cash payment or deduction from account)
  • Through "Sadad" payment method, using online bank account or ATM.
  • Through Telephone Banking
  • Advance payment from bank account
  • Cash Deposit Machines
